Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages, get ready for … Cirque de van Gogh. Be prepared to be amazed, amused and perhaps thrilled! Feel the mystique of the magician, the charades of the clown - let yourself be drawn by the music and the mystery of le carnaval. Since ancient times the brotherhood of the circus has fascinated audiences with its folklore, funfair, freaks and side shows!  You're cordially invited to attend River Oaks 2018 Cirque de van Gogh, a Venetian carnival inspired event! 

Guests will be drawn in by the theatrical, the daring feats of the vaudeville performers and of course taking center stage, our star artists, lead by none other than our reveling Ringmaster.  Where marveling at the evening's fanciful festivities and contemporary art will always captivate your imagination.  Cirque de van Gogh - one night only, on an evening close to all hallows eve –  when anything magical could be sinister … or just a sideshow of illusion. Welcome all, as the Art Center casts its characters under the big top, Saturday, October 27th -  truly the greatest show on earth!

The Layered Surface

Wednesday August 29 & Thursday August 30 - 10:00 -4:00 (Break for Lunch) Cost is $95 per student.
Skill Level : Intermediate to Advanced - Class Size is Limited.
In this two day workshop, students will focus on developing surface composition by layering underglaze directly onto leather hard clay. Custom paper and reusable die-cut vinyl stencils will be used to create layered patterns, shapes and detailed imagery. Students will have the option to explore these techniques directly on their own wheel thrown or hand-built surfaces. The techniques and materials used during this workshop have the flexibility to be fired to any temperature / atmosphere. Technique based workshop. Supply list upon registration.

Ever wanted to throw on the potter's wheel? Here's your chance! From a lump of clay will introduce the curious novice on how pottery is created on the wheel. In this technique oriented "try it" class, students will experience the basics of making a vessel. No finished pieces from this session as this is a technique based workshop helping students hone in on their wheel throwing abilities. Take a single class or attend all .....think of this time as an introduction to a whole new passion.

This class will focus on Morace's ever popular Louisiana themed imagery, exploring the timeless, magnificent magnolia. Using acrylic and mixed media techniques, students will leave with a completed 
6 x 20" stretched canvas work. Brilliant tones and elaborate backgrounds will set the stage for this Fall Session, exploring the artist's evolving contemporary motifs.

Cost - $25 per person -- Open to all/ Limited Seating/Call to Register.  
As a precursor to the evening's opening reception, NOLA based gallery owner and artist Becky Fos, will provide a demonstration for guests of the art center. A study of the Oyster will set the stage for this rare opportunity to see the artist in action! Fos' popularity has been growing, not only in the Big Easy, but worldwide. Her impasto technique, applying wet, undiluted oil paint with her palette knife, is unapologetically bold and energetic. She uses color as a forefront in her pieces that allow them to come to life, evoking an instant sense of happiness.

CALLING ALL VISUAL ARTISTS AND FINE CRAFTSMEN

 The Annual Porch Sale is located in the historic Bolton Home which also houses the Center’s Gallery Gift Shop. The Annual Porch Sale is held on a major shopping weekend so guests have the opportunity to purchase unique, original works of art just in time for the gift giving season.  Works may range from pottery, paintings, sculpture, fiber arts, mobiles, jewelry, photographs, mixed media etc.  Every year the Sale expands to feature new artists from across the state.  River Oaks is also home to a sales gallery which features exclusive works by the Louisiana Crafts Guild. Numerous artists are on-site during the event with sales tables and demonstration features.  

The Annual Porch Sale Shopping Event on Saturday, December 1st from 9am - 3pm in the Bolton Home & Studio Annex Building featuring Original works of art just in time for the gift giving season!
