River Oaks means ART – Locally, Regionally and Nationally

For over 34 years, River Oaks has been a member of the local art scene, not just for Central Louisiana but the entire state. The Arts Center is quickly becoming the same caliber name on the national stage, as it has been recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts for its expanding, high-quality programming. To foster incredible creativity requires a vast amount of dedication and teamwork. Being recognized on a national stage against staggering competition is a validation of sorts that ‘our little arts center that could’ is most certainly headed in the right direction. For the second year in a row, River Oaks was awarded the NEA’s Arts Engagement in American Communities Grant allowing for the promotion of it national features, special events and educational components.

“The National Endowment for the Arts is proud to support the excellence and diversity of arts programs across the country, including organizations like River Oaks, that make the arts accessible to people in Central Louisiana and further enhances the vitality of their community,” NEA Acting Chairman, Mary Anne Carter.

“With a plethora of exhibitions and unique events, River Oaks is poised as a dynamic advocate of contemporary visual arts, having become a distinct cultural anchor within our community and throughout the region.” stated Rachael Dauzat, Executive Director.

River Oaks is of course taking no time to rest on these incredible laurels and has already issued a national call for their Annual 5x5x5 Show (aka The Triple 5) which is slated to open mid-November. This remarkably fascinating showing of miniature works coincides with the gift giving season. The 5x5x5 Show is an annual, signature exhibition allowing patrons to purchase unique, original works of art for holiday gift giving or as additions to their expanding collections. Guest Juror for the 2018 #Triple5 is New Orleans artist, gallery owner and founder/publisher of Art+Design Magazine, Steve Martin.

For the #Triple5 Call, 2D and 3D works are accepted and the call is open to all media. Awards include $500 Best in Show, three Merit Awards of $100 each and Honorable Mentions. The call closes at Midnight, Saturday, October 13 – more information and a link to submit entries are available through or,

Another open Call to Artists is the Annual Christmas Porch Sale. This community art sale staple is slated for Saturday, December 1st and the Arts Center is searching for featured artists for this unique seasonal event. River Oaks Square Arts Center invites all visual artists to submit works for our Annual Porch Sale which features professional artisans and fine craftsmen. Artists may be present on the day of the sale demonstrating their creative art process for the general public or they may simply ship/deliver inventory (Jury process required for those artists not currently represented by the Arts Center). The sale takes place from 9am-3pm in both the historic Bolton Home and Studio Annex Buildings. Our 2018 featured guest artist, Amy Glisan, will be on-site with new inventory.
